Hellickson Awarded Gold Glove, Rays to Bring back Molina for 2013

MLB announced the winners of the Gold Glove award yesterday, which featured two finalists from the Rays (Desmond Jennings and Jeremy Hellickson). Hellickson would win for the pitching position, which was also won by Jake Peavy as the two tied in the voting.

Here’s a list of all the winners, which unfortunately included terrible choices for centerfield in both the AL and NL (Adam Jones and Andrew McCutchen).

In other Rays news, it looks as if the Rays will pick up the 2013 option on James Shields ($10.25 million) and Jose Molina ($1.8 million). Molina will be returning to Tampa Bay next season but Shields may not, as a blockbuster trade is still a realistic option for the Rays.

I hate to beat the proverbial dead horse, but noobdy is spending money right now. Personally, I’d rather stay at home and watch the games on TV right now, and save my discretionary funds for attending games later in the season when the divisional/wild card race really heats up. I probably sound like a bad fan, but money is tight right now (Full time worker/part time student). As much as I’d like to go to 5-10 games a month, it’s hard to justify. Another thing I often wonder about is the effect (affect?) of HDTV and better coverage, on attendance. If you wanted to see a baseball game live 40 years ago, you went to it. Now, I can watch almost every single game on TV, with a great quality picture and good announcers.

PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP CARLOS PENA ON YOUR ROSTER. PAY HIM LESS MONEY. YOU KNOW HE IS THE BREAD AND BUTTER OF THAT TEAM, A REAL LEADER, HE IS A GUY WHO ENCOURAGES AND HOLDS THE TEAM TOGETHER. IF YOU LET HIM GO, THE RAYS WILL BE THE LOSERS, NOT HIM.
