Rays Beat Twins 10-7 in Extras

The Rays improved their Grapefruit League record to 2-1 yesterday, defeating the Minnesota Twins 10-7 in 10 innings in Fort Myers.

Although the scoreboard doesn’t show it, Tampa Bay continued to display good pitching in this game. Chris Archer, Jake Odorizzi, Alex Torres and three other minor league pitchers all tossed one scoreless inning each.

The most eye-opening of the bunch was Archer, who started the game throwing heat in the mid-upper 90’s range.

Some offensive notables included Stephen Vogt (2-3), Leslie Anderson (2-3, 3 RBI), Mark Thomas (1-2, 2-run HR), Jason Bourgeois (1-2, 2 R, RBI), Cole Figueroa (2-2) and Mike Fontenot (2-2, 2 RBI).

Also worth noting, Wil Myers got his first hit of the spring, knocking an RBI double.

All in all, the Rays’ offensive compiled 15 hits yesterday. It’s exactly what Rays fans were looking for after a rather quiet first two games at the plate.

Rays News and Notes:

  • The Rays return home to Charlotte Sports Park today to take on the Red Sox; first pitch at 1:05. DRaysBay.com has lineups and scheduled pitchers for the ballgame.
  • The Yankees’ Curtis Granderson will be out for around 10 weeks after breaking his forearm during yesterday’s game.
  • The Process Report‘s brand new podcast “The Podcast Report” made it’s debut yesterday. It’s definitely worth a listen:
